Who Is Fletchers’ Mill?

Humble Beginnings

In 1971, brothers Wayne and Earl Fletcher had a vision of owning a business, so on a wing and a prayer they mortgaged their homes and took ownership of an antiquated mill that once served as a blacksmith shop. Many of the simpler items which the Fletcher brothers began manufacturing included wooden nickels, tool handles and toy parts, are still being made today.

Second-Generation. Family-Owned

Since 1994 the business has been owned and operated by Wayne’s sons Doug, Jody and Gary. All 3 brothers worked at the company for years before taking ownership, slowly graduating from sawmill workers, to machine operators, to mechanics, to supervisors, to finally owners. Consequently the 2nd-generation of Fletchers know their business from top to bottom.

Today

Today the company employs around 100 workers and their family of businesses include Fletchers’ Mill, Maine Wood Turning, which specializes in custom wood turnings, custom moldings and finishing, and Lutz File & Tool Company which makes wooden file handles and accessories. As Doug Fletcher likes to say, “From raw logs to the finished product the entire process is done in house and under a watchful eye.”
